Poetry Devotion— How to Gain Discernment

And this I pray, that your love may aboundyet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That you may approve things that are excellent;that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11

Lord,
In this day of compromise,
Help me discern wrong from right.
Keep me open that I might learn,
Issues and standards on which I must stand firm—
Help me research and do my part
To uncover falsehood and fraud,
Encouraging others to follow
the rule of righteous law.
Help me, Lord, know truth from lies, and then,
Give me strength to stand forthright and strong.
Amen.

Poetry Silent Wings

Unsplash marek-studzinski

Angels soar by
On silent wings, pause...
Stoop to touch the earth with song,
And slowly glide on.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God... Luke 3:13

As the Angels heralded your birth, Jesus,
help me herald your love in all I do and say. Amen.

Poetry The Blessing of Grandchildren

Grandchildren
They fill my life
With exhaustion and energy,
Antics and anxiety.
(What will they try next?)
And with miles and miles
of hugs and smiles.
And lessons learned
Usually on the fly,
Me, as much as, or more
Than they.
I am filled with a satisfaction
wide and deep,
From simply being
in their presence,
Finding opportunities to share Jesus
Sharing a laugh, a hug,a knowing smile.
Receiving back so very much
Love and joy and more
The very love of Christ
From the heart of
Precocious,
Precious,
Grandchildren!

Poetry The Clock of Life

He put the clock on the mantel,
Wound the key at dawn,
Now each day gone,
Brings a new day on,
As the clock keeps tic, ticking on.

Life is like that mantel clock,
God's time the second hand,
And the seconds I lend,
Are seconds I spend,
As time keeps tic, ticking along.

Each moment
He gives is a precious one,
To be wisely used.
Not wisely used,
A moment I lose,
As time goes tic, ticking on.

Though life ticks on through pain, I find
Joy deepened by sorrow.
But for every sorrow,
There is hope for tomorrow,
As life goes tic, ticking by.

When the clock has run down,
And the mainspring has ceased,
My life shall be released,
To Heavenly peace,
And time to forever with Him.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. —Colossians 3:16-17

Thank you, Lord, for life. Help me live it in a way that brings honor to you. Amen.

Poetry Count the Blessings

Oh give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endures forever. —Psalm 136:1

We look before and after,
And desire what we have not;
Instead of being thankful,
For all that we have got....
Loving family, caring friends,
To support and lend an ear:
But most of all for the Savior,
Who is always near.

Help me Lord, count my many blessings, and be content with what I do have...you. Amen.

Poetry The Timepiece of Life

See then that you walk circumspectly [carefully], not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. —Ephesians 5:15-16

The timepiece
Ticks away time,
Tells us when to go where,
Faster and faster
We race its seemingly
slow hands,
And wonder
why it
Wins!

Lord, help me use the time you've given me to honor you in my home, my church, and in society.

Poetry Thanks for Today God

This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. —Psalm 18:24

This morning I felt tired,
God seemed far away,
But I arose, dressed and ate,
And went to worship anyway.

This morning as I went to church,
I looked up in the sky,
Then felt His presence with me
As a cloud slowly drifted by.

Suddenly I was thankful,I got up today,
Rejoicing, I said, "Thank you, Lord."
For creating for me,
this beautiful day.

Lord, you created such a beautiful world. Help me recognize your handiwork, appreciate what you've provided and care for your creation. Amen.

Poetry Reflections

I like new things
And comfortably old
In Christ I am made new
As I rest in the comforting embrace
Of His worn, loved bruised arms.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. —Isaiah 53:5 KJV

Poetry Time—A Wink, A Blink and a Nod

Where has this week gone?
Each moment a wink.
Each day a nod.
And the week disappears in a blink.

Gone childhood where time
Stretched forward endlessly day by day.
When even the afternoon, tomorrow
Seemed a forever delay.

We grow, mature and time quickens.
Days slide one into another in an uninvited race.
Faster, faster time flies.
We age, children grow
Until we are frantic to slow life’s pace.

Hair grays. Wrinkles show.
Time zips on, yet I am comforted to know
I need not worry the speed of my journey,
For my life is more than here below.

However long or short, fast or slow life’s ride,
I trust in Christ, secure He has a plan
That today, tomorrow and forever
I rest safely in His hands.

Poetry He Gave Me Hope

He gave me hope
When darkness clouded mind and soul
When pain beyond reason
Clutched and tore the fabric of my insular world
Left me bleeding from every
Physical and emotional pore.

He offered life
When my own ebbed and I
Wished only for the end
Yet, I clung to that nameless something
Implanted deep within
This cannot be all there is!

His gentle voice called, comforted, cared
Even in my rebellion,
Even in my indifference,
Even in my anger
He showed me sacrifice
Someone even dared to die—for me!

Love held Jesus to that cross
God became man—lived, died.
Rose again—for me, for my pain
For my anguished cries
Of heart and soul and mind.

Jesus offered forgiveness, life, hope
He stretched out His hand
My choice. And I, in dread anticipation,
Clasped His palm--Found Him.

Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. —Psalm 119:114 KJV

Poetry Living Life Well

There are now more years
Behind me then before me.
I’ve lived
sometimes through pain,
sometimes through frustration,
sometimes through sheer grit.

Through it all, Jesus was there.
I knew His care as I chose
to make and keep Him
the center of my life within.

With that choice,I discovered a sense of
Purpose,
Peace,
Comfort,
And the joy of knowing
My life was and is safely
in His hands yesterday,
today and for all eternity.

Devotion Poetry My Center

God meant us for peace and prosperity
Of mind and soul,
Forgiveness found
Only in the death of He
Who gave His life at Calvary
For all who come, accept and live
For Christ

Will I kneel,
Have the mind of Christ
Know His love
Have His mind inside;

Or will I be blinded by ignorance
Rationalization,
Tradition
Daily living for myself?
In the business of life,

Will I choose to give Him
The best of my time and all I am and find...
Living for Him instead of Me
When He is my center,
I am truly free.

I Thessalonians 5:21-22 (KJV) Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Poetry Two Words that Changes Lives

Two words.
We pass over them,
Maybe, too familiar these simple words.
Yet, we need to consider their power,
Their reality,
Their impact on lives and hearts,
Families and countries.
They are words to savor and share.
Words revealing deep love and care,
Words showing life and love and hope
In an often dark and confusing world,
Words that make a difference
when we believe and heed,
Starting today,
With you, with me.
The two life-changing words?
Jesus saves!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. --John 3:16-17 (NKJV)

Poetry Because Jesus Knows My Name

Jesus knows my name.
Among all of creation,
He knows ME.
Formed me to be
Special in my own way.
Placed His seal of approval on
This body,
This spirit,
This mind,
And called it good,
Called it blessed,
Provides all I need to live,
And grow into
The person,
The individual,
He created me to be,
A person He came for,
Lived for,
Died on Calvary for,
And rose again for.
Because He lives He offers me,
Not only forgiveness,
But also salvation, light & life abundantly,
With Him as Lord, Savior,
Friend and Guide.
All I need do is clutch His hand,
Accept His plan created just for me,
By He who knows my name,
Gave me life,
As I ask Him in, I find I
Like the person I am with Him inside, for
In His loving embrace.
I know hope and peace and life
For today, tomorrow & for all eternity.
