know when to keep silent : I deal in hope

I deal in hope : Carolyn R Scheidies

Devotion: Discretion

We live in a culture where everything hangs out–our bodies, our opinions, our beefs…and all too often, our ignorance.

Wisdom isn’t always what we know, but when to speak and when to be silent.

We don’t need to let everyone know our business and certainly don’t need to share the business of others. Email and social networks have made privacy difficult. But wise is the person who considers the long-term consequences of sharing, of revelations, of gossip BEFORE putting it out to the world. Discretion is something we not only need, but something we need to pass on to our kids.

Proverbs 18:2 (GW) A fool does not find joy in understanding but only in expressing his own opinion.

Proverbs 17:28 Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise: and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Lord, help me remember to think first and weigh my words carefully—before I share. May I share words of wisdom, truth and grace, not words of anger, bitterness or revenge. Amen.
