I deal in hope : Carolyn R Scheidies

Devotion: Making Him #1

From the very beginning, and over and over in the Bible, one thing is clear–to claim His name, God must be absolutely #1 in our lives. If we seek His blessing, guidance or answers to our prayers, we must first come, honor, worship and have a relationship with Him.

And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command you this day for your good? —Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Why should God offer us guidance when we’ve given no indication we’ll follow? How many times has He spoken in a still, small voice in our heart or through another and we dismissed or ignored the advice or even gotten angry because it wasn’t what we wanted to hear?

If we truly love God, if we truly want a life with God’s presence, peace and provision in our lives, we must start by loving Him completely with our heart, our minds, our choices.
