America has gone far away from the idea of personal responsibility and self-determination. More and more are buying into the idea that it is the government’s job to take care of everyone from cradle to grave. But this is not a solid or viable foundation for democracy. Why? Because the more government hands out, the more chains of regulation they impose.
He who calls the shots, is the one who also enforces his own rules. Everyone gets entangled until individuals, families, business and pretty much every segment of society fails under burdensome regulations and control that destroys freedom and liberty..
Call it communism or socialism or something else, but the bottom line is, when we trust in humans and in human institutions, we end up with dictators–and usually not benevolent ones.
American began on a foundation of faith, on God—not man. Our founders knew human institutions tended toward power and away from personal, individual freedom, not toward it. Our founders sought to balance the potential for power grabs. But humans and government fail–especially when their sole purpose seems to be stealing from one segment to shower others with benefits or in feathering their own nests.
We stay free only as we elect those who value life itself, value the Constitution that enshrines our freedoms of life, faith and personal responsibility, value the right to worship and to live in personal freedom without undue government interference.
For all that, governments fail because people fail. Only God is dependable. Only as we trust in Him will we find the security we need to live our lives with confidence and freedom–a freedom that comes from a heart that knows true freedom starts in making Jesus the core of our lives and choices.
It is better to depend on the LORD than to trust mortals. It is better to depend on the LORD than to trust influential people. –Psalm 118:8-9 GW
