We put our trust in lots of things–ourselves, our intellect, our abilities, our families, wealth, status, position–and wonder why they fail, at some point, to satisfy, to protect, or to bring lasting happiness. All these fail because they were never meant to become foundations for life or living.
I Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not arrogant, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
There is only one solid, safe, lasting foundation–God. He is a solid rock. When we build our lives on Him, trust Him with everything, we’ll be able to meet adversity head on because we won’t meet it alone.
