God didn’t call us to warm pews on Sunday morning. He didn’t come just to offer a fire escape or a glorious afterlife. God calls followers willing to go, do, care, reach out to the least of these.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: —Ephesians 4:11-12 (KJV)
We can all be one of these who serve in some capacity—teaching Sunday School, sharing God’s care with a neighbor… Jesus calls us to start with loving and serving those closest to us. How am I sharing God’s love with my spouse, family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, strangers?
Help me, Jesus, serve You by reaching out with Your love and care to those around me. Help me SEE the need by being centered IN You rather than ON me. Amen.
And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you. —Ephesians 4:32
