I deal in hope : Carolyn R Scheidies

Poetry: He Must Be First

He must be first, this Son of God
Who gave new meaning to my life,
Who took the pain which crippled me inside,
Took the hurt and took the strife.

He must come first, this Jesus Christ,
Lord of all who as an infant came to earth,
And the heavens erupted in a
blaze of angelic glory,
To proclaim his unique birth.

But the joy surrounding this wondrous event,
Is often lost in the bustle and glitter,
Santa Claus becomes the hero of the hour,
While the true meaning of Christmas few consider.

Even less in the springtime,
When Easter arrives with colored eggs
and the Easter bunny.
Who considers the cost Christ paid at the cross,
Dying that He might make us free?

Do we believe He not only died,
But rose to give us life brand new?
Do we believe He died to forgive, set free,
Believe that in a world of frauds,
He is real and true?

I believe, for He gave me peace,
I had only to invite Him in.
Mending the pieces of my shattered dreams,
He made me whole in Him.

Yes, He must be first, this loving Lord,
The baby, the man, my Savior, Guide,
Who gave up all, and I will live for Him,
Who’s ever and always by my side.

Lord, help me put you first in all I think, see, say and do. Amen.

But seek first the kingdom of God
and his righteousness;
and all these things shall
be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
