I tell people that Nebraska only has two seasons—Winter and Summer. Why? Because Winter reaches deep into Spring. We’ve had blizzards in late April. Where is Spring?
I thought Spring had arrived this year. I took a blanket off the bed and started wearing a lightweight nightgown instead of the oversized sweatshirt I wear all Winter. For a few days, the weather has been warm, Last night not so much.
I got cold. At 3:30 I tugged my sweatshirt over my nightgown and was able to warm up and sleep. I’m wearing long sleeves today, though the top is lightweight.
I know how it goes. One day everything will change. Winter cold fades away to Summer heat. Suddenly the world explodes into colors as trees unfurl green leaves and flowers boom in riots of color.
Spring becomes a memory as Summer heat dominates. We bathe in the sunshine, play, swim, enjoy…and begin to dream of fall, Winter and a hint of cool air.
But right now, I’ll take this in between weather with no snow to scoop, no furnace on and yet, no air conditioning needed. Cheapest time of the year on the budget. And I can still wear long sleeves.
I’ll take it and be thankful.
