Hebrews 2:1, 3 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. … How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
When something is fresh and new, it excites us. We pay attention. We’re involved. But as time passes we tend to take things for granted.
Our Christian walk is no different. When we first meet Jesus, we’re excited. We devour God’s Word and nurture our relationship with Jesus. But life happens and moves on. We allow circumstances and excuses to take the place of meditation on the Word and communication with our Friend and Savior.
We drift away. Often never realizing we’ve begun listening to the wrong voices, never realizing we’ve left our first love and no longer have a solid foundation under us.
We need to return to our first love, get that solid foundation under us with God’s Word and prayer. We need to cultivate an attitude of listening, learning from and obedience to our Savior.
Only then will we know His protection, His provision, His peace…and, once again, His blessing.
